Ludowici Tile Roof Replacement in Kansas City
Why use Ludowici Terra Cotta Tile for your Tile Roof replacement in Kansas City
The Ludowici legacy of old-world craftsmanship started 400 years ago in Rome, Italy where the Ludovisi family became famous for its expertly crafted clay roof tile. As European demand grew, the family moved to Germany and their name was changed to the Germanized Ludowici. In the late 1800’s, Carl Ludowici moved the family and his old-world craftsmanship to America establishing a terra cotta roof tile company in Chicago, Illinois.
In the early 1900’s, the Ludowici Roof Tile Company prospered. Eventually, all Ludowici terra cotta tile making operations were consolidated into a single facility in New Lexington, Ohio. More than a century later, Ludowici continues to produce a limitless array of terra cotta colors and profiles to fit vast architectural styles. Ludowici’s unique custom capabilities allow architects and designers to create durable, inspiring architecture utilizing a truly unlimited terra cotta palette. With a life span of over 100 years, a Ludowici terra cotta product is not only beautiful but is one of the most sustainable and green construction products available. With over 120 years of experience, Ludowici has grown into the industry leader for clay roof tile, terra cotta wall tiles, quarry tiles and decorative terra cotta finials.
Proven Technology
Fired clay, also known as Terra Cotta, is a durable, enduring material.
Many of the ancient cities of old Europe are roofed in clay tiles, some many centuries old.
The Great Wall of China is over 5,500 miles long, constructed with over 3.8 billion bricks starting in 210 B.C.
The Colosseum and many of the oldest structures still standing in Rome are built from brick. Some over 2,000 years old.
Made using the same process brick – tile has performed exquisitely for thousands of years.
Ludowici takes this basic principle of firing clay to harden it and applies modern technology and techniques to produce a wide range of Terra cotta products; roof tiles, flooring and wall cladding.
The Terra Cotta Advantage: Versatility
Tailor your building’s exterior to match your exact design aspirations and create a look unique around the world.
A broad variety of widths and lengths for proper scale on your building.
Unlimited textures, and surface customization.
Different textures allow designers to play with shadow effects on the structure.
Wide range of natural earth tone and glazed colors.
Can be installed vertically to achieve designer’s vision of the facade.
Colors
Select a material for your project that will remain the same color for 100 years.
Terra cotta tiles are not monochromatic thus a range of color hues occur within a given color.
Variations in tone are natural due to temperature variations within kiln, differences in clay pigments and grit composition.
Rich, warm, earthtone colors are created by extreme heat in kiln and are not affected by sun’s UV rays.
Terra cotta tiles are color permanent and will not fade — BEST in class color fastness.

Crafting tile to fit curved roofs has been a Ludowici specialty since the late 1800s. To accommodate the geometry of a curved roof, Ludowici artfully tapers tile. Tapered tiles become progressively smaller from the bottom to the top of a curved roof. These graduated tiles are custom designed to fit a specific roof. This custom process requires Ludowici to send technicians to the job-site to take detailed field measurements of the physical structure. Ludowici craftsmen use these drawings to design patterns and molds for each row of tiles. The result is a magnificient, expertly crafted curved roof.
